Dr. Ganesan's study focuses on two things: 1) understanding how melanocytes respond to environmental stimuli (UV irradiation, inflammation) to preserve normal homeostasis, and 2) determining how this homeostasis is broken in disease (melanoma, vitiligo). To discover novel diagnostics and treatments for disease, he uses a combination of modern functional genomic technology (si/shRNA, CRISPR/Cas9 Genome Engineering, bulk and single cell RNA sequencing, DNA sequencing), cell biology methodologies, and rational drug design strategies. His lab uses a combination of human-derived cell lines/strains, transgenic mouse models, and human tissues for the majority of its research.
