Dr. Mahmoud is an Associate Professor of Dermatology and the Director of Teledermatology at the University of Massachusetts Medical School (UMMS) in Worcester, MA. Dr. Mahmoud is a member of the UMMS Vitiligo Clinic and Research Center, which includes a speciality clinic for the diagnosis and treatment of vitiligo patients. He is doing the Melanocyte-Keratinocyte Transplantation Procedure (MKTP), which has been shown to be a successful treatment for vitiligo patients who have failed to respond to conventional treatments. Dr. Mahmoud was a co-editor of a new textbook on the treatment of vitiligo that was just released. He has also served on a number of panels, including the American Academy of Dermatology, and has produced numerous research publications and textbook chapters on vitiligo and other areas. Dr. Mahmoud serves on the editorial boards of several national and international research journals, including the Journal of Investigative Dermatology, Pigment Cell & Melanoma Research, Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, JAMA Dermatology, Journal of Dermatologic Surgery, Journal of Photochemistry Photobiology, and others. He was awarded a grant from the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery to conduct a study comparing various surgical approaches in order to determine the best surgical approach for vitiligo therapy. He's given talks on pigmented skin illnesses and other issues, and he's spoken at national and international conferences.
